The Town Clerk's office is responsible for recording activities of the town government. The office issues various licenses (e.g., dog, games of chance, sporting) and permits (e.g., fireworks) as well as maintains vital records (birth, marriage, and death certificates).

State Registration of Birth, Death and Marriage information began in the early 1880s. By the 1890s most events were being recorded. Births and deaths are recorded in the town/city/village where they occurred. Marriages could be recorded in any location within the state.

Application for Genealogical Services

The Town of Covert's Veterans Memorial situated in front of the Covert Municipal Building, formerly home to the American Legion, was dedicated on Memorial Day, May 30, 2011. The ceremony began with a parade featuring the South Seneca Elementary School Band and the VFW Color Guards marching from the Elementary School to the Town Municipal Building. Senator Mike Nozzolio spoke as part of the dedication honoring our country's veterans. Patriotic music and taps were performed by the SSCS Elementary Band.

Minutes of the Town Board are prepared by the Town Clerk and filed permanently in the Town Clerk's Office. All ordinances and local laws adopted by the Town Board are also on file in the Town Clerk's office.
